Brig.Gen. Tony Daniels Biography

I was born on September 17, 1947. Eighty Five years to the day of the Battle of Antietam. If you believe in spooks, omens and deja vue (as I do), I think it has a lot to do with my lifelong Passion for the Civil War.

I am a retired Public School Teacher, who has lived most of his life in New Jersey. For the last 5 years, I have split my time between Vermont, and Florida. (The best of both worlds). I have been re-enacting since 1982, when I joined the 7th NJ. A few years later, the 3rd NJ spun out of the 7th, and I was one of the charter members.

I have served as every thing from a Private to a General, And, am proud to say that I am also one of the Original members of the USV. In fact, I remember when we were the UO's. My 1st company Command was at the 125th Saylor's Creek, and my 1st Divisional Command was 5 years later, at the 130th Saylor's Creek. I have been proud to be overall Federal commander at many events, including Bentonville, Cedar Creek, Monmouth, Liberty NY, Monroe, Neshaminy and others.

On occasion, I portray Gen. Grant, and have done so for "Classic Images", the BBC, and History Channel, to name a few.

I am extremely fortunate to have a wife (Margo, also a teacher), of 39 years, who has always been supportive, active and helpful in my re-enacting pursuits. I have 2 grown children, who are also teachers in Vermont, and one lovely Grand daughter, named Wendy, who I love dearly.

Some of my very best friends, I have met through our hobby, and I am proud, and honored to be the commander of the United States Volunteers.

Regards,
Tony
