Dear Friends,

I apologize for not communicating with you earlier, things have been quiet, but far from dormant.

First, I have a few requests for you all. I would like the individual units to let me know which events you are attending. There are a few reasons for this request. I want to get a feel for what you are doing, and when it is being done. I would like feedback from you, about the events, living histories etc. that you are participating in to help me to better appreciate what you are doing, what you like and do not like about it and what you would want to do.

Also, if the numbers, time and commitments, or your requests warrant it, I would like to attend some of these events with you.

We have all been disappointed with the cancellation of the Spotsylvania Event. It was to have been a major event with USV maximum effort. We have not found sufficient interest in any other event to attempt to substitute in mid season. We will continue to look for some opportunity this year and certainly have Cedar Creek to look forward to. The reasons for cancelation seem to have been related to the economy and concerns about the financial viability of the event and not based on reenactor considerations. Economics is only one of the challenges for each of us as we strive to sustain, enjoy and improve our hobby.

So, when I say that things have been busy, they have been.

Here is what has been "cookin". I will be meeting with Scott Washburn (Mifflin) Wayne Wolffe (Vincent's) and Terry Daley (National Reg.) sometime in June or July. .The purpose is to discuss forming some sort of an alliance of the larger eastern federal organizations. The precise form is still being considered, but I know that we need to organize and "get on the ball" to prepare for the 150th cycle, and to work in concert for our common good. Our success and enjoyment is dependent upon organization and leadership. I believe that the organizations included in this discussion are some of the elite in the hobby. If this group does not provide the organization and leadership we will either have none or we will be dependent upon other parties to assume the role that we fail to take.

You will be kept posted.

I hope to see many of you soon in Washington, and enjoyed visiting with many of you recently at Neshaminy.. Please feel free to speak to me or my staff about your concerns. Please also keep me posted on your doings.
